A
Kansas City, Missouri native, Christian Simms, has been exploring the human form
since the late 80's. Known primarily for his "blind
contour" style, his works seeks the balance between abstraction and
figurative representation. The use of bright color and line express
the fluidity and motion in his paintings. He often uses collage and other media to
give the work texture and depth. Simms has had a number of one man
exhibitions as well as group shows. Most recently, two pieces were
selected for the third annual Grand Nude Show, a juried exhibition
featuring local artists working exclusively with the figure. He has
done commissioned work for both speculative, private collectors and
upscale restaurants, such as EBT, Hannahs Bistro, Melbee's, and the late
Stolen Grill restaurant.
